BLACK GOD, written by Dall-Young Lim and illustrated by Sung-Woo Park, is a seinen, supernatural drama. It tells the story of Keita Ibuki, a freelance programmer trying to make ends meet. When a chance encounter with a Tera Guardian named Kuro causes him to lose his arm, she offers him her own to save him, forming a powerful contract with him.

We currently have Volume 3 of this manga (19 total).

Buddha, written and illustrated by Osamu Tezuka, is a seinen, historical drama. It tells the story of Siddhartha Guatama, an Indian prince who leaves his life of luxury to become Buddha, the Enlightened One. Epic in scope, it begins with the events surrounding his birth and ends with his passing, wondering if his teachings left an impact.

We currently have Volume 1 of this manga (8 total).

Cat Paradise, written and illustrated by Yuji Iwahara, is a seinen, supernatural adventure. It tells the story of Yumi Hayakawa, a high school girl attending Matabi Academy with her cat, Kansuke. What starts out as an easy-going school life is thrown into chaos when they're drawn into war against Kaen, an ancient, demon cat.

Chibi Vampire (also known as Karin in Japan), written and illustrated by Yuna Kagesaki, is a shonen, supernatural comedy. It tells the story of Karin Maaka, a young girl born into a family of vampires. Instead of feeding on other people's blood, however, she has to inject her own excess blood into them or suffer the embarrassing consequences. 

We currently have Volumes 1-4 of this manga (14 total).

Cirque du Freak (also known as The Saga of Darren Shan), written by Darren O'Shaughnessy and illustrated by Takahiro Arai, is a manga adaptation of the book series of the same name. It tells the story of Darren Shan, a young boy who's turned into a vampire to save him from a life-threatening spider bite.

We currently have Volumes 1-2 of this manga (12 total).

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge, is a shonen, dark fantasy adventure. It tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado, a young man who returns home to find his family slaughtered by demons and his younger sister, Nezuko, turned into one. Seeking a way to save her, Tanjiro joins the Demon Slayers Corps in their crusade against the demon king, Muzan.

We currently have Volume 1 of this manga (23 total).

Dragon Drive, written and illustrated by Ken-ichi Sakura, is a shonen, sci-fi, adventure. It tells the story of Reiji Ozara, a high school student who gives up on everything he tries. However, when one of his friends introduces him to Dragon Drive, a virtual-reality game where he gets his own pet dragon, he learns that there's more to him and Chibi than he ever realized.

We currently have Volumes 1-3 of this manga (14 total).

Fruits Basket, written and illustrated by Natsuki Takaya, is a shojo, romantic drama. It tells the story of Tohru Honda, an orphan girl who moves into a tent after the death of her mother. When she finally meets the owners of the property, the Sohmas, she learns their secret: whenever they're hugged by someone of the opposite sex, they transform into zodiac animals!

We currently have Volume 16 of this manga (23 total).

Genshiken, written and illustrated by Kio Shimoka, is a seinen, slice of life, comedy. It tells the story of Kanji Sasahara, a closet otaku (obsessive fan) who's too self-conscious to embrace his interests. When he discovers Genshiken (The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture) at his club fair, he gets to experience the weird and wonderful world of the otaku for the first time.

We currently have Volumes 1-9 of this manga (9 total).

Gunslinger Girl, written and illustrated by Yu Aida, is a shonen, political thriller. It tells the story of the Social Welfare Agency, an Italian government agency that converts damaged young girls into cybernetic assassins. Given handlers known as fratello (Italian for brother), these girls must find new purpose in a world that would use them as weapons.

We currently have Volumes 1-6 of this manga (15 total).

Hell Girl, written and illustrated by Miyuki Eto, is a shojo, supernatural anthology. It tells the story of Ai Enma, the Hell Girl, who is said to help people who request her services. There's just one catch : in exchange for condemning your abusers to an immediate hell, you agree to go to hell yourself after your death.

We currently have Volumes 1-3 of this manga (6 total).

Her Majesty's Dog, written and illustrated by Mick Takeuchi, is a shojo, supernatural drama. It tells the story of Amane Kamori, a young medium who is able to control spirits by using their true names. However, while her guardian, Hyoue Inugami, is a ferocious demon dog, to the rest of the world, he looks like a handsome young man.

We currently have Volume 2 of this manga (11 total).

Hibiki's Magic, written by Jun Maeda and illustrated by Rei Idumi, is a shonen, fantasy drama. It tells the story Hibiki, a young girl who serves as the apprentice to the wizard, Shirotsuki. When a tragic accident leads to the wizard losing his body, Hibiki is taken in by the faculty of the Kamisaid Magic Academy, where she's offered a job as a teacher.

We currently have Volumes 1-2 of this manga (6 total; 2 in North America).

Hunter X Hunter, written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi, is a shonen supernatural adventure. It tells the story of Gon Freecs, a young man living with his Aunt Mito on Whale Island. After a chance encounter with professional Hunter Kite informs him that his father is still alive, Gon sets out to become a Hunter himself to find him.

We currently have the 3-in-1 Edition, which compiles Volumes 1-3 of this manga (ongoing).

Kagurabachi, written and illustrated by Takeru Hokazono, is a shonen, supernatural thriller. It tells the story of Chihiro Rokuhira, the son of a renowned swordsmith famous for his six Enchanted Blades. When the villainous Hishaku group murder his father and steal the Enchanted Blades, Chihiro sets out to recover them, wielding the secret seventh blade Enten.

We currently have Volume 1 of this manga (ongoing).

Kingdom Hearts II, adapted into manga form by Shiro Amano, is a shonen, comedy adventure. It tells the story of Roxas, a young man living in Twilight Town with his friends Hayner, Pence, and Ollette. While his summer break seems easy-going at first, it is interrupted by a series of strange events that connect him to the boy named Sora.

We currently have Volume 1 of this manga (10 total; 2 in the Tokyopop Edition).

Kon Kon Kokon, written and illustrated by Koge-Donbo, is an unfinished seinen, supernatural romance. It tells the story of Ren Hinonishi, a country boy who wants to look cool to his friends in the city. The problem is, he's secretly obsessed with yokai (monsters/spirits), and a young kitsune (fox spirit) has just arrived on the scene, determined to marry him.

We currently have Volume 1 of this manga (1 total).

Mushishi, written and illustrated by Yuki Urushibara, is a seinen, supernatural anthology. It tells the story of Ginko, a young man who travels Japan, looking for creatures known as mushi, which are ethereal beings that most humans can't see. As a Mushi Master, he works to help humans and mushi coexist wherever possible.

Onegai Teacher (also known as Please Teacher!), written by Please! and illustrated by Shizuru Hayashiya, is a shonen, sci-fi, romantic comedy. It tells the story of Kei Kusanagi, a young man who witnesses a woman falling from the sky. After learning that she's an alien going undercover as a high school teacher, he tries to preserve her secret... by marrying her.

We currently have Volumes 1-2 of this manga (2 total).

One Piece, written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda, is a shonen, comedy adventure. It tells the story of Monkey D. Luffy, a young pirate who dreams of finding the legendary treasure "One Piece" and becoming the Pirate King. Though his journey is fraught with peril, he is supported by his crew of dreamers and the rubbery powers of the Gomu Gomu Fruit.

We currently have the 3-in-1 Edition, which compiles Volumes 1-3 of this manga (ongoing).

Psychic Academy, written and illustrated by Katsu Aki, is a seinen, sci fi, romantic comedy. It tells the story of Ai Shiomi, a young man who's just been accepted into the elite Psychic Academy. The only problem is that his older brother, Zero, is a psychic prodigy, and he doesn't think he has a psychic aura to speak of.

We currently have Volume 1 of this manga (11 total).

R2, written and illustrated by Maki Hakoda, is an unfinished shonen, sci-fi adventure. It tells the story of Kenta Akagi, a pizza delivery boy living in the seaside city of Lutzheim. When he starts experiencing visions of a mysterious girl, he is pulled into a web of conspiracies that will challenge everything he thinks he knows about the world.

We currently have Volume 1 of this manga (2 total; 1 in North America).

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, written and illustrated by Naoko Takeuchi, is a shojo, magical girl series. It tells the story of Usagi Tsukino, a middle-school girl who is thrust into a world of monsters and magic when she meets Luna, a talking black cat. Using a special brooch, she takes on the form of Sailor Moon, Pretty Guardian, to battle the forces of evil.

We currently have Volumes 1-2 of this manga (10 total).

Sakura Taisen (also known as Sakura Wars), written by Ohji Hiroi and illustrated by Ikku Masa, is a shonen, historical drama. It tells the story of Ichiro Ogami, a navy ensign who finds himself unexpectedly demoted to theatre usher. However, his new job is just a front for the Imperial Combat Revue, a military unit dedicated to battling demons with steam-powered mechs.

We currently have Volume 1 of this manga (9 total; 7 in North America).

Sgt. Frog, written and illustrated by Mine Yoshizaki, is a shonen, sci-fi comedy. It tells the story of Sergeant Keroro, a froglike alien who serves as the leader of the Keroro Platoon. When their attempt to conquer "Pekopon" (the Earth) is unintentionally foiled by the Hinata family, they are abandoned by the rest of their kind and forced to live with the family.

We currently have Volume 1 of this manga (33 total; 21 in North America).

Shakugan no Shana, written by Yashichiro Takahashi, and illustrated by Ayato Sasakura and Noizi Ito, is a shonen, supernatural drama. It tells the story of Yuji Sakai, a high school boy who nearly loses his existence to a being known as a Crimson Denizen. When a girl with fire powers named Shana saves him, he commits to help her defend the world from those monsters.

We currently have Volumes 1-2 of this manga (10 total).

Shakugan no Shana started life as a series of light novels, chronicling the adventures of the titular heroine. While the manga and light novel follow the same general plot, the light novel depicts the world and its characters in more detail, allowing readers to experience the author's original vision. It also features some exclusive manga-styled illustrations.

We currently have Volumes 1-2 of this light novel (22 total; 2 in North America).

Sorcerer Hunters, written and illustrated by Satoru Akahori and Ray Omishi, is a shonen, comedic fantasy. It tells the story of the Sorcerer Hunters, a group of warriors who've come together to save mankind from the tyranny of sorcerers. Their leader, a young man named Carrot Glace, can barely wield a sword, but has the power to transform into wild beasts.

We currently have Volume 8 of this manga (13 total).

The History of Japan, supervised by Professor Kaoru Iokibe, is an educational manga created as part of the ongoing KADOKAWA Learning with Manga Series. It depicts the history and cultural movements of Japan, from its first settlers to the modern day, in an adorable manga style, offering timelines and other resources for study.

We currently have Volume 16 of this manga (16 total).

Trinity Blood, written by Sunau Yoshida and illustrated by Kiyo Kyujo, is a shojo, supernatural drama. It tells the story of Esther Blanchett, a young nun working for the Catholic Church. Though an ordinary girl, she is cast into a world of vampires and bloodshed when she meets Abel Nightroad, a noble vampire who feeds on other vampires.

We currently have Volume 1 of this manga (21 total).

Vampire Doll: Guilt-Na-Zan, written and illustrated by Erika Kari, is a josei, supernatural comedy. It tells the story of Guilt-na-Zan, a vampire lord who was sealed within a black cross for a hundred years. When he is brought back by his exorcist's descendent, he is forced to inhabit a feminine wax doll and serve him as a maid.

We currently have Volumes 1-5 of this manga (6 total).

Vampire Game, written and illustrated by Judal, is a shojo, fantasy drama. It tells the story of the Vampire King, Duzell, who died in battle against the legendary King Phelios. Swearing revenge on his mortal enemy, he is reincarnated into the body of a cat, only to be taken in by Lady Ishtar, the late king's selfish granddaughter.

We currently have Volumes 1-2 of this manga (15 total).

Warriors (also known as Warrior Cats), written by Dan Jolley (under the pseudonym Erin Hunter) and illustrated by James L. Barry, Bettina M. Kurkoski, and Don Hudson, is an OEL manga spinoff of the juvenile book series of the same name. It tells the story of various characters featured throughout the series, like Graystripe, Tigerstar, and Ravenpaw.

Other Anime

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba's first opening, "Gurange" (or "Red Lotus"), was performed by singer and songwriter LiSA. Its visuals depict Tanjiro's struggle to become a member of the Demon Slayer Corps, as well as his subsequent battles against powerful demons. It also depicts his Water Breathing style, which allows his sword to move as fluidly as a river.

Dragon Drive's opening theme, "True", was performed by singer/songwriter Shimokawa Mikuni. Its visuals depict the various players of the titular game preparing to log in. The lyrics represent Reiji's perspective, who after years of giving up at everything, desperately wants to prove himself for the first time.

Fruits Basket (2019)'s first opening theme, "Again", was performed by Filipina pop singer Beverly. Its visuals depict Tohru, her friends, and the Sohmas during their daily routines, grappling with the sorrows of their past. Its visuals also show the joy that occurs when they are unexpectedly brought together.

Fruits Basket (2019)'s third opening theme, "Prism", was performed by AmPm ft Miyuna. Its visuals depict Tohru and the Sohmas on summer vacation, soaking up rays and enjoying their time on the beach. Its visuals also depict the Sohma's zodiac animals, which are the forms that they take when embraced by the opposite sex.

Genshiken's second opening theme, "My Pace Daio", was performed by the arranger manzo. Its visuals depict the various members of The Society for the Study of Visual Culture in their day to day lives, engaging in their interests and hobbies. It also features a few shots of gameplay footage from The King of Fighters XI and Castle Shikigami 2.

Gunslinger Girl's opening theme, "The Light Before We Land", was originally performed by the Delgados for the album Hate. Though the track was written and performed independently of the series, it was chosen to represent its themes of lost innocence and humanity, and establish the bittersweet tone that the series is known for.

Hell Girl's first opening theme, "Sakasama No Chou" ( or "The Inversed Butterfly"), was performed by singer and songwriter SNoW. Its visuals depict Ai Enma, the Hell Girl, wandering the city streets and countryside looking in search of beauty. She briefly watches a fish suffocate out of water, a subtle nod to those who are so desperate for revenge that they would cast away their own souls.

Hunter X Hunter (2011)'s opening theme, "Departure", was performed by vocalist Masatoshi Ono. Its visuals depict the events of the Hunter Exam arc, where Gon, Kurapika, Leorio, and Killua set out to become professional Hunters. While "Departure" is the only opening theme, the series alternates between using its first verse and its second.

Hunter X Hunter (2011)'s second ending theme, "Hunting For Your Dream", was performed by Japanese metal band GALNERYUS. Its visuals depict the events of the Heaven's Arena and Yorknew City arcs, where Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio learn that they can use Nen, a supernatural power born from dreams and willpower.

Kingdom Hearts II's opening theme, "Sanctuary", was written and performed by singer, songwriter, and producer Hikaru Utada. Its visuals depict the events of the first Kingdom Hearts & Chain of Memories, with Sora battling the Heartless and the Organization alongside his friends. They also depict Roxas becoming aware of his unknown connection to Sora.

Mushishi's first opening theme, "The Sore Feet Song", was performed by Scottish singer and songwriter Ally Kerr. Its visuals depict the beauty of nature in abstract color—a white light shining though the lush greens of the forest. This peaceful scenery, lacking in characters, is meant to put the audience in the mood for an easy-going, emotional experience.

Onegai Teacher's opening theme, "Shooting Star", was performed by the singer Kaori Shizuki. Its visuals depict the candid and care-free nature of Kei Kusanagi's relationship with Mizuho Kazami; how it's everyday interactions with each other that lead to their rapidly growing feelings of affection.

One Piece's first opening, "We Are!", was performed by Japanese singer Hiroshi Kitadani. Its visuals depict the start of the Great Pirate Era, courtesy of Gold Roger, the former Pirate King. They also depict Monkey D. Luffy setting sail with his own pirate crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, as they set sail to make their dreams come true.

One Piece's fifteenth opening, "We Go!", was performed by Japanese singer Hiroshi Kitadani. Its visuals depict the grand return of the Straw Hat Pirates after training for two years, featuring their all new designs and abilities. It also depicts the legacy of the Straw Hat itself, passed down from Gol D. Roger, to Shanks, to Monkey D. Luffy.

Sailor Moon Crystal's first opening, "MOON PRIDE", was performed by j-pop idol group Momoiro Clover Z. Its visuals depict Usagi joining forces with her fellow Sailor Guardians to battle the forces of evil. It also depicts the Moon Kingdom in its prime, an ancient civilization that holds special meaning for the Guardians.

Sakura Taisen's opening theme, "Geki! Teikoku Kageki-dan" (or "Attack! Imperial Floral Assault Troop"), was performed by singer and voice actor Chisa Yokoyama. Its visuals depict the various members of the Imperial Assault Force, on-foot and in their signature mechs, battling demons born from the darkness in human hearts.

Shakugan no Shana's first opening theme, "Hishoku no Sora" (also known as "The Crimson Sky"), was performed by the pop singer Mami Kawada. Its visuals depict Shana as both a student and in her true identity as a Flame Haze, hanging out with Yuji Sakai and battling the Crimson Denizens whenever possible.

Shakugan no Shana's second opening theme, "JOINT", was performed by the pop singer Mami Kawada. Its visuals depict Shana in her continuing battle against the Crimson Denizens. Though aloof at first, her growing feelings for Yuji begin to affect her powers, either increasing her strength or causing her to plunge into despair.

Sgt. Frog's first opening theme, "Kero! to March", was performed by actor and actress duo Nobuaki Kakuda & Juri Ihata. Its visuals depict the members of the Keroro Platoon planning to take over the world, only for their plans to be interrupted by the Hinata family asking them to do various chores. In the end, it would've been cheaper (and easier) if they'd all just ordered out.

Sorcerer Hunters's opening theme, "WHAT'S UP GUYS?", was performed by singer Megumi Hayashibara and voice actor Shinnosuke Furumoto. Its visuals depict Carrot and the other Sorcerer Hunters, infiltrating lairs and battling sorcerers. They also depict Carrot's transformation into a powerful, horned beast.

Trinity Blood's opening theme, "Dress (Bloody Trinity Mix)", was performed by the rock band BUCK-TICK. Its visuals depict the various humans and vampires that struggle for the fate of the world, from Esther Blanchett and her fellow Catholic nuns and priests, to the benevolent vampire that is Abel Nightroad.
