Fantasy / Horror Comics (& Graphic Novels)

The Arrival is an abstract drama written and illustrated by Shaun Tan. It tells the story of a young father who, upon recognizing the apparent dangers of his homeland, travels to another country to carve out a home for his family. Though the story is told without text or dialogue, meaning is conveyed through the characters' expressions and body language.

City of Light, City of Dark is an action-adventure written by Edward Irving Wortis (under the penname Avi) and illustrated by Brian Floca. It tells the story of Carlos Juarez, a young boy who comes upon an unusual subway token one day, tied to an ancient ritual. If he fails to return it to a set location by a set time, his entire city will be frozen solid.

Dark Wraith of Shannara is a graphic novel headed by Terry Brooks, illustrated by Edwin David, and adapted by Robert Place Napton. It tells the continued story of Jair Ohmsford, who after his appearances in The Wishsong of Shannara and Indomitable, sets out to rescue his allies with the power of the wishsong, which allows him to inhabit illusions.

Locke & Key is a dark fantasy, adventure comic written by Joe Hill, illustrated by Gabriel Rodríguez, and colored by Jay Fotos. It tells the story of Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode Locke—three kids who move to the Keyhouse with their mother after their father is murdered. Though it was promised to protect them, the manor itself holds a dangerous secret.

Revival is a horror mystery written by Tim Seely, illustrated by Mike Norton, and colored by Mark Englert, consisting of 8 volumes. We currently have Volumes 1-2 of this comic (8 total). It is Rated M for Mature.

Scott Pilgrim is an action, comedy comic written and illustrated by Bryan Lee O'Malley. To date her, however, Scott must battle her seven evil exes, who jealously guard her affection.

We currently have Volumes 1-6 of this graphic novel (6 total).

Uncle Scrooge: His Life & Times is a fantasy adventure written and illustrated by Carl Barks. This volume is a compilation of many of Barks' classic comics, from "The Seven Cities of Cibola" to "The Many Faces of Magica De Spell". Though Uncle Scrooge is motivated by his love of money, deep down, he has a heart of gold to match.

We currently have the 1987 edition, which compiles 12 different issues of this comic.

Vermis is a unique artbook project written and illustrated by internet artist Plastiboo. It presents itself as a strategy guide to the titular old-school dungeon-crawling game. There's a catch though: the game that it's describing isn't real. Experience the surreal and frightening world of Vermis through the lens of its game mechanics.

We currently have Book 1 of this project (2+ total).

The Walking Dead is a horror thriller written by Robert Kirkman, and illustrated by Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard. It tells the story of Rick Grimes, a police deputy who wakes up from a coma to find the world infested with the undead. The series would later be adapted as the live-action AMC series of the same name.

We currently have Volumes 1-27 of this graphic novel (32 total). It is Rated M for Mature.

Fantasy / Horror Series

Locke & Key (2020) is a live-action Netflix adaptation of the comic series of the same name. Like the original, it depicts the supernatural struggles of the Locke family, who are trying to pick up the pieces after their father was violently murdered by a former friend. Shortly after moving into their uncle's home, they discover a range of keys with supernatural abilities.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (2010) is a live-action adaptation of the comic series. Though not very successful in its own time, it has since become a cult favorite among fans. While many of its actors would go on to reprise their roles in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, the film is perhaps best known for the way it incorporates video game and comic book effects into its scenes.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off's opening "Bloom" was performed by the Japanese rock band Necry Talkie. Its visuals depict Scott and his friends in their day-to-day lives hanging out, performing in Sex Bob-omb, and battling the Ramona's seven evil exes. As the original comic pays homage to anime and video game tropes, this opening features elements of both.
