A Parent's Guide to UACCM

This guide provides information to parents of students enrolling at UACCM. Information is designed to help parents support their students on their Journey with Meaning.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

We want you involved in your child’s educational journey at UACCM.  However, because we are bound by FERPA, we are limited on the information that we can legally share with you regardless of your child’s age or dependency status.  All academic information must be given to the student and not the parent.  If a college representative tells you that they cannot give you information or discuss certain matters with you, please know that by law they must protect the student’s information.

Even with FERPA, there are still several ways you can advocate for your student:

  • Ask your child how they are doing.  In this guide you will learn about several resources that you may want to recommend to them.
  • Ask your child to complete a FERPA release form authorizing UACCM to release information to you related to educational records, financial aid, and/or student account transactions.  Be aware that completion of this form does not permit faculty to discuss assignments or grades with you.  However, it does allow you to access information in certain offices such as the Registrar’s Office (final grades) or Financial Aid.

  • College representatives may discuss matters in your presence if the student is present and gives permission.
