Scott Pilgrim is an action, comedy comic written and illustrated by Bryan Lee O'Malley. It tells the story of Scott Pilgrim, an aimless young man who finds love when Ramona Flowers, the new delivery girl, starts using his dreams as a shortcut. To date her, however, Scott must battle her seven evil exes, who jealously guard her affection.

Scott Pilgrim borrows a lot from the aesthetics and mechanics of retro video games including Super Mario Bros. 2, River City Ransom, and Clash at Demonhead. In this ebook, Andy Clarke & Grethe Mitchell compile a wide variety of essays about the art of videogames, from storytelling through game mechanics, to their actual status as art.
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (2010) is a live-action adaptation of the comic series. Though not very successful in its own time, it has since become a cult favorite among fans. While many of its actors would go on to reprise their roles in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, the film is perhaps best known for the way it incorporates video game and comic book effects into its scenes.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off's opening theme, "Bloom", was performed by the Japanese rock band Necry Talkie. Its visuals depict Scott and his friends in their day-to-day lives hanging out, performing in Sex Bob-omb, and battling the Ramona's seven evil exes. As the original comic pays homage to anime and video game tropes, this opening features elements of both.
